Now that we are back from our summer break we are putting together the final plans first of all for our October events, but also preparations are under way for our big Christmas Open Weekend. This year the galleries have invited Norwich jewellers, Zelley, who will be bringing a wonderful selection of contemporary amber jewellery. They will also be setting up a mini amber exhibition and Howard Zelley will present a talk each afternoon all about the fascinating subject of amber.!amber/cnbp
We feel this year will be better than ever with much to see as well as some delicious Christmassy food to get us in the mood for all the forthcoming festivities!

However, back to the present and during this autumn we have much to shout about at the galleries.

October starts with Dianne Brick hosting 'Flights of Fancy'. An exhibition featuring around 120 pieces of Tunbridge Ware from the extensive collection of the late Dr. Annie Peach. The centre-piece of the exhibition will be a fine satinwood bookstand by Edmund Nye, produced about the time of The Great Exhibition of 1851. It features marquetry panels of birds and sunflowers, thought to be designs from Thomas Barton.

More information can be found on Dianne's website at where you can order her accompanying catalogue which is also available at the galleries. Prior to the selling exhibition which opens on October 4th there will be a preview day on Thursday 2nd for collectors to peruse the exhibition in a relaxed way before making decisions on any purchases.

Towards the end of October on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th we are pleased to host for the third time '200 Years of British Porcelain 1750 - 1950'. Organised by Jupiter Antiques and with invited guests Tony Horseley and Mark and Sandra Diamond, this will be a wonderful opportunity for collectors to view pieces firstly from three recently acquired collections including a fine collection of British coffee cans from factories such as Derby, Pinxton, Worcester, Minton, Herculaneum, Coalport, Masons and more, and a collection of 18th century Worcester porcelain, much of it acquired over 40 years ago.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served as you view these extensive collections.

First of all though, several of our specialists will be taking part in various antique fairs around the country. Just this weekend is the Antiques & Fine Art Fair at Harewood near Leeds. Our very own Dianne Brick will be presenting her talk 'What's in a Box', which was very well received when she presented it at the galleries and to The Friends of the BADA Trust earlier in the year. If you were not able to attend the previous ones and you live near Harewood, it's a great opportunity to catch it there.

Also in September is Caroline Penmans Chelsea Antiques Fair and the Lapada Art and Antiques Fair at Berkeley Square. All dates are below in Dates for your Diary.

Lennox Cato will be presenting a talk for the Friends of the Bada Trust at the BADA headquarters at Rutland Gate in London on Tuesday November 25th at 2.30pm. Entitled IS BROWN FURNITURE OUT OF FASHION? Lennox will discuss the beauty and colour of wood and bring along small examples so that the audience can see the different grains and colours between woods. This will be interspersed with anecdotes from Lennox about his life as a dealer and his experiences on the Roadshow. This will be an informative and entertaining afternoon with a small quiz to keep everyone on their toes and a goody bag to take home. Tickets cost £12 each and will be limited so please contact Anne Green at the BADA on 0207 581 5259 if you are interested.

Lastly, we are delighted to be welcoming Michael and Marilyn Tooke of the Horological Workshops. The Tookes will be taking showroom space from November and will offer a fine selection of fine quality clocks and barometers. They will make a great addition to the galleries and will add to the wealth of knowledge within our enterprise.

This leaves us to say we hope you may find some or all of these events of interest, and look forward to seeing you in the near future. As you know our galleries provide a wide variety of fine quality antiques and works of art and will always welcome you even if it's just for a browse!

With our very best wishes,
Lennox, Sue and all at the galleries.
