October Newsletter 2010

However turbulent the economic climate remains, the demand for good quality antiques prevails, and with the recent addition of two new dealers to our showrooms we are able to offer an unparalleled selection of art, antiques and decorative items. We are pleased to announce that two well known and respected dealers Kaye Michie Fine Art and Robbie Timms of S.& S. Timms Antiques Ltd have now joined the collective here at The Edenbridge Galleries.

Kaye has been dealing in watercolours, drawings and illustrations since 1990 and S.& S. Timms, who have been established for over 30 years, are always happy to share their vast wealth of knowledge and experience of antique furniture.

National Antiques Week takes place on 15th - 21st November. The aim being to promote the green credentials of antiques and the excellent value for money they represent when compared to similar or equivalent high street purchases. As most of our dealers will be exhibiting at Olympia during this week we will not be holding any special events in the galleries.

We will soon be getting ready for our Christmas Open Weekend which will be held on 4th & 5th December. Following the success of past Open Weekends, we will once again be able to enjoy the magical atmosphere created by musicians Serendipity, whilst relaxing with complimentary mulled wine and mince pies amongst a wide selection of antiques and interior design inspiration.

Please don't forget our two events being held over the weekend of 6th & 7th November. Dianne Brick will be holding her second Tea & Tunbridge Ware event and John Robertson will be presenting a Mervyn Goode exhibition of contemporary art. All details in Dates for your Diary and our website.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Lennox, Sue and everyone at the galleries.

Tunbridge Ware Object of the Month October 2010

The Tunbridge Ware Object of the Month for October is an unusual watch holder in the shape of a longcase clock, which was intended as a centrepiece for the mantelshelf. It is likely that this example came from the workshop of Boyce, Brown & Kemp at the end of the nineteenth century, when they were trying to introduce a range of novelty items to enhance their range.

Measuring some 9 inches tall, this watch stand has a panel of perspective cubes to the front and the hood opens to reveal the aperture for the watch. (Please note there is no watch included with this item. The watch face is printed on paper and is intended for display purposes only).
