November Newsletter 2012 - Welcome

With the Christmas season creeping up on us somewhat quicker than we always imagine, we can turn our efforts to preparing for this wonderful festive period. As we have mentioned previously, we will be celebrating the start of the festivities on 1st and 2nd December, a little earlier than usual, but hopefully this will enable you to find that special present in a more relaxed state of mind! Always an optimistic thought!

This year we have been very fortunate indeed to acquire the expertise of one of the country's leading authorities on vintage Teddy Bears and dolls. Sue Pearson who has an enchanting shop in Lewes, East Sussex, has been dealing since the late '70's. Her first shop was in the Lanes in Brighton which soon became a mecca for collectors from all over the world. Sue went on to write two highly regarded reference books and has travelled the world presenting talks and offering advice on her subject. Her son Jasper is now involved in the business and as well as their shop, they run a thriving teddy and dolls hospital.

We are delighted that Sue has offered to display her own private collection and host a talk each afternoon at 3pm. She will discuss the many aspects of teddy collecting and would love you to bring your own teddies along for advice and valuations. In fact, it has started a bit of teddy mania within the galleries and as many of our dealers as possible will be bringing along their own teddies and displaying them amongst their own stock!

As well as vintage teddies on offer Sue will also be bringing a range of delightful new cuddly companions! Ideal as Christmas presents and with price tickets to suit all pockets. You can find out more about Sue Pearson by visiting http://www.suepearson.co.uk. You can also catch Sues teddies on the Antiques Roadshow at the end of the month in their Good, Better & Best section.

As always our specialists will be making that extra special effort to add to that Christmas sparkle. There will no doubt be several pieces which have not been on view before and our specialists are more than happy to advise on any antique related queries.

We pride ourselves on offering something for everyone! Therefore, as well as beautiful antique items you will also find books by some of our specialists and antique and contemporary gifts with prices starting from £25.

We look forward to seeing you at our Christmas event or at any other time that suits you. Don't forget our fully comprehensive website is updated regularly.
Lennox, Sue and all at the galleries.
Tunbridge Ware Object of the Month

This month Dianne's object is this new publication entitled 'Topographical Tunbridge Ware An Illustrated Guide to the Mosaic Views on Tunbridge Ware'. By Howard Rockley.

During our Christmas Open Weekend you will be able to purchase this long awaited for book and on Saturday 1st the author will be here for you to meet first hand. He will also be happy to sign any books you may wish to purchase. For more information please visit Dianne's blog.
Competition of the Month

Last month's competition created a frenzy of entries! Many guessing the correct answer which was 'Stratford Upon Avon'. Congratulation's goes to Mr. Steve Cowling who's name was drawn out of the hat. He has been sent a £100 gift voucher to spend at the galleries.

This month to coincide with our Teddy theme we have a nice easy question! Can you tell us from whose name the word Teddy originated from? As well as the opportunity to win a £100 gift voucher Sue and Jasper Pearson have very kindly donated this very cute and cuddly Charley Bear as an extra prize. Please email or phone your answers to us by November 30th and we will draw the winner on Saturday 1st December. Good luck!!
