June Newsletter 2012

By the time you receive this letter several of our specialists will be exhibiting at the Olympia International Fine Art & Antiques Fair. June is always a busy time for the art and antiques world with much going on in London. Our porcelain dealers, Jupiter Antiques, will be holding their annual Ceramics Mayfair event at The Four Seasons Hotel in Park Lane.

Although some of our showrooms may look a little depleted there will still be much to see and our very capable staff are always on hand to help and advise you.

Lennox Cato will be filming another Antiques Roadshow on 12th July, this time in the beautiful location of Fountains Abbey. Please do go along with any items you would like more information on and see how it all works, it is fascinating to watch.

As always, we look forward to seeing you in the galleries and for those who live many miles away our fully comprehensive website provides a feast for your eyes! Don't forget you can follow us on Twitter and Facebook. See the homepage of our website.

With our best wishes,
Lennox, Sue and all at the galleries.

Competition of the Month

Unfortunately we have had no winners for our May competition! We had some wonderful suggestions from a stilton or cheese scoop, to a frozen cream desert scoop to a ladies coaching piss pot!! The item, which did resemble a scoop of some sort, is infact an eye bath. The compartment at the end of the handle would have been used for a small amount of powder or ointment. Well, we live and learn!

This month Derek Roberts of Derval Antique Clocks has offered this interesting object which we hope you can work out just what it was used for. It measures 18cm square (7ins.) made of oak with a cast iron handle. It has a hinged door with lock and a pierced carved top. This is a mid Victorian copy of a George I example.
