Well, what an appallingly wet summer we are all experiencing at the moment with not much sign of a let up! Thank goodness Edenbridge has not been subjected to floods and business is as usual here.

There is much to report this month. We have a new member within our collective. Competition of the Month

At last we have a winner!! Well done to Mr. John Baleon who correctly identified the object as a foot warmer. This item would have been filled with hot coals and placed in a carriage for the traveller to place their feet on to keep warm. Many thanks to those who sent in various answers, it is always worth a try. Mr. Baleon will be sent a £100 gift voucher to spend in the galleries, congratulations!!!!

This month we want you to give us the correct name for the item shown along with its use and explanation of how it works. Answers please by the end of the month via email or phone call. Good luck!!

Tunbridge Ware Object of the Month

A box with an unusual mosaic of a bird on a branch set within borders of geometric mosaic. The bird is depicted in a naive style and has a long tail, a crest on its head and a long beak.

The interior, which is relined, is fitted with compartments, probably intended for two small inkwells and writing materials. For more information on bird designs please see our blog "Early Birds"
