February Newsletter 2013
With spring just around the corner surely we won't be having too much more of this cold weather and we can soon get out into the lovely British countryside and go antique hunting!
As many of you well know The Edenbridge Galleries is a great place to start. With our quaint little town within easy reach of many attractions a complete day out can be achieved in a small area. Hever and Chiddingstone Castles are within ten minutes of our gallery and Chartwell, the home of Winston Churchill, is also very close by. All offer afternoon teas and wonderful gardens to while away your time. We can also recommend some lovely places to have lunch.
We have had a marvellous response to our nomination for 'Antiques Centre of the Year Award'. It would be a wonderful achievement if we were to win and a large part of the criteria is to gain votes. If you haven't already done so would you be kind enough to take a few minutes to go to the Homes and Antiques website and vote for us? The closing date is 28th February.
Our rug specialist, Arash Karimzadeh, will be presenting a talk on Friday April 19th at the galleries. Arash has an extensive knowledge on his subject and the evening will no doubt be a truly interesting and fascinating one.
For our annual Spring Open Weekend this year we have decided upon the theme of 'Birds, Bees and Butterflies'. We will be exhibiting some fine examples of these exquisite little creatures within our own collections. More information on this event and Arash's talk will be explained in the next letter.
Before we close our welcome section may we remind you that several of us will be exhibiting at the BADA Fair in the Duke of Your Square, London and The Chelsea Antiques Fair along the road in Chelsea Town Hall. Both start on Wednesday 13th March and if anyone would like complimentary invitations please do let us know.
We look forward to seeing you soon,
With best wishes,
Lennox, Sue and all at the galleries.
Competition of the Month
Our lucky winner last month was Lesley Wilson from East Grinstead. She correctly answered the question 'Can you tell us what a Loo table is and what its original name was?' The answer as several of you knew was a Lanterloo or sometimes known as a Lanternloo.
The table originated due to the game of the same name dating back to the 17th century played by 3 to 5 people. Congratulations to Lesley who has now received her £100 gift voucher.
This month can you give us the name of the Arts and Crafts designer of this box, and what materials were used? Answers please by 28th February and as always... good luck!
