April Newsletter 2011
Welcome
As May approaches we are all busy preparing for our open weekend. As you continue to read this letter you will see the variety we have on offer this time, be it antique or contemporary. We do hope you will be able join us especially as our last Christmas event was marred by the difficult weather conditions. Let's hope the beautiful sunny weather continues!
At the Edenbridge Galleries we are dedicated to making our showrooms a one-stop destination for antique furnishings and interiors, with our interior designers and antiques experts offering a wealth of inspiration and specialist knowledge to guide you in your choices. We are able to arrange for most items to be taken on approval, so that you are able to place them in situ and feel confident in your purchase.
A virtual tour of the galleries, with a voice-over by Lennox, is now available to view on our website www.edenbridgegalleries.com, just click the "View virtual tour" button in the left hand column.
At the time of writing the redecoration of the Lennox Cato showroom is nearing completion. Next time you visit come and admire Lennox's new stock and decor.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Best Wishes from Lennox, Sue and everyone at the galleries.

May Open weekend - 'Royal Connections'
At The Edenbridge Galleries we will be patriotically celebrating the royal marriage on 7th & 8th May, during our May Open Weekend, where our theme will be 'Royal Connections'.
When Prince William announced his engagement to Catherine Middleton he ended years of speculation and an opportunity for manufacturers of commemorative memorabilia to design souvenirs of the historic day.
For many centuries royal occasions have been commemorated in a variety of materials, although ceramics tend to dominate the market. The Worcester Mug of King George III is a well known portrait of the king based on the painting by Jeremiah Mayer, versions of which were published as engravings by James McArdel and by R. Purcell. Worcester produced mugs of George III and Charlotte using overglaze prints engraved by Robert Hancock.
Jupiter Antiques will be displaying this mug along with other wonderful pieces of commemorative porcelain much of which has never been on public display before.
All our specialists will be displaying something with a 'Royal Connection' including a charming picture painted by Prince George aged 10 years old who later became George V. This is on loan from Kaye Michie and is a delightful scene of soldiers painted on Sandringham letter headed paper.
Derval Antiques will have on show a collection of stereographs, where visitors will be able to view 3D images of royal scenes from the turn of the century.
Refreshments will be served throughout the weekend and all the member specialists will be on hand to advise and help you explore the showrooms in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

Jenny Wheatley Exhibition & Book Signing
Our open weekend will also host a book launch and exhibition by artist Jenny Wheatley RWS, who lived for many years in Kent, to celebrate the publication of her first book entitled 'Adventurous Watercolours'. The exhibition will include some of the paintings that appear in the book, as well as a collection of new oils and watercolours.
In the book Jenny discusses her sources of inspiration including her travels to India and the Far East which influenced her love of glowing colours. Many of the artefacts collected on her travels are used extensively in her pictures. Jenny studied at Farnham College of Art and Design and has since exhibited her works at The Royal Academy, International Contemporary Art Fairs and at galleries throughout the country.
Followers of the television series 'Water Colour Challenge' will remember her lively appearances as one of the judges.
The exhibition has been arranged by John Robertson and will continue until Saturday 21st May during normal shop opening times.
