A fine and rare regency escritoire veneered in coromandel, with original black and veined brown marble top, which compliments it excellently.

The top part comprises an escritoire with a fall, the outside of which is decorated with diagonally laid coromandel veneers and a recessed central panel bordered by an ornamental brass mould, in the centre of which is set a raised scene, executed in brass, of a reclining figure in the countryside holding a musical ? instrument in one hand whilst the other is clasped to the top of an urn from which water is pouring.

Within the escritoire are two small drawers with six small recesses above for paper-work and another full-with recess below. The sides have large cut-outs surrounded by coromandel and decorated with pleated green silk with grills in front.

Below the writing section is a cupboard the front door and sides of which are also decorated with panels of green silk and brass grills. At the bottom is a drawer and below this outward curving ebonised feet.
