D234. Henry Jacot No 17510. A particularly good quality gilded corniche cased carriage clock by this very fine maker. Circa 1890.
The movement, which strikes the hours and halves on a gong, has a well executed lever escapement. The white enamelled dial has roman numerals and the clock bears Jacot’s trademark on the backplate below the handset square. It is also numbered to the bottom left.
The clock comes with its original leather carrying case which is also numbered 17510.
Ht with/without handle 7" x 5.2" ( 18x13 cms. £1,750.
Henri Jacot who worked at 31 Rue Montmorency, Paris, exhibited in the Paris Exposition for the first time in 1855 and in London some seven years later. He died in 1868 and was succeeded by his nephew, also a Henri Jacot. Their trademark is a parrot together with their initials HJ. Their carriage clocks were always of the highest quality.
