Description / Expertise
D169. This industrial clock, which may safely be attributed to Guilmet, simulates a train, complete with wheels, buffers and funnel, leaving a smoky tunnel. Circa 1880.
The striking movement, with replaced lever escapement, has a brass dial with silvered chapter ring employing arabic numerals. There is a spirit centigrade thermometer to the left and a mercury one (defective) for fahrenheit to the right. To the front of the funnel is a barometer and on top a compass.
The whole rests on a rouge marble base and below this is a brass mould. The tunnel is also capped with rouge marble.
