Description / Expertise
D200. A fine gorge cased carriage clock by Le Roy & Fils, which is decorated with well executed and attractively coloured champleve enamel to the front and both sides.
The delicately written circular enamelled dial has roman hour and arabic minute numerals and uses Breguet style hands. It is signed Leroy & Fils, 211 Regent Street and 13-15 Palais Royal Paris. It is surrounded by a narrow gilded ring with a fine dark blue line beyond this. The rest of the dial mask is decorated with a variety of champleve enamels in blues, greens, red and cream. The two side panels display a similar variety of colours but with the addition of pink.
The movement, which has a well executed lever escapement, strikes and repeats the hours and halves on a gong and is numbered on the back-plate 3380.
Interestingly another carriage clock by Leroy, with very similar decoration, is illustrated in Carriage and other travelling clocks by Derek Roberts; fig: 11-8.
Ht with /without handle:- 7"/5.5". ( 17.5/ 13.5cm). £5,750.
